Roll the Dice in Vegas is an SCA-sanctioned steak cookoff contest held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
What is the SCA?
The Steak Cookoff Association has been a sanctioned grilling contest for more than a decade. There are dozens of SCA competitions held around the world each year.
Teams show up with their grills, charcoal and favorite seasonings. Then, they line up to pick out two ribeye steaks that are provided by the event promoter. They take those steaks back to their sites and cook them however they want for the judges.
Certified SCA judges are provided the grilled uncut steaks one at a time in a Styrofoam box. The steaks are judged on appearance, doneness, taste, texture and overall impression. For SCA, medium is considered the ideal doneness.
The winner of every event earns a golden ticket to compete at the world championships in Fort Worth, Texas.
Along with steak categories, many SCA events include ancillary categories, which range from pizza to burgers to wings to dessert.
Roll the Dice in Vegas
In 2022, Bama-Q TV reached out to Girls Can Grill with an idea to host an epic SCA contest in Las Vegas. The first Roll the Dice in Vegas was held at Premier BBQ and Fire and included 69 teams, making it the largest SCA on the west coast.
In 2023, the contest moved to the Palms Casino and drew a total of 84 teams.
What to Expect for 2025
Roll the Dice in Vegas is back for 2025. This year, it will be held at the Silverton Casino on April 26. In addition to being a double, there will be three ancillaries: Monster Burger, Anything Chicken (with Girls Can Grill Chicken Rub) and Anything Milkshakes.
